Not directly. But there are options to own land in Bali.
As of my last update in January 2022, foreign individuals cannot directly own land in Bali or anywhere else in Indonesia. However, there are some options for foreigners to invest in property in Bali:
- Leasehold: Foreigners can lease land in Indonesia for up to 25 years, with an option to extend for another 25 years. This can be done through a lease agreement with the landowner.
- Nominee Structure: Some foreigners use a nominee structure where they set up a legal agreement with an Indonesian citizen to hold the title to the land on their behalf. However, this method has legal risks and complications.
- Foreign-Owned Company (PT PMA): Foreigners can establish a foreign-owned company (PT PMA) in Indonesia, which can then purchase land. However, this involves complex legal processes and requirements.
It’s important to consult with legal experts and professionals who are well-versed in Indonesian property laws and regulations before pursuing any property investment in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia. Additionally, laws and regulations may have changed since my last update, so it’s essential to verify the current regulations.
